Development on the SMS service has only just started, but we are making fast progress. Pepe did an awesome job making an adapter to the UPC database, which is itself a neat open source project and a testament to the power of collaborative data collection.

Our service accepts text messages (SMS) or emails that contain a single barcode in the subject line. Most text messages without explicit subject lines duplicate the message body as the subject, so it should work for everyone.

In addition to barcode lookup, the dev flock is working to add product and company name search. Our backlog includes filtering and formatting the results, parsing barcode pictures and collecting more data!
